Birmingham Astronomical Society

Creating designs that are out of this world!

Astronomical photograph of the sun by Birmingham Astronomical Society

Since 1950, Birmingham Astronomical Society has been promoting astronomy in across the city and beyond. They do this through a wide range of activities, sharing their love of astronomy and encouraging people to take part. As well as regular star-gazing they also provide monthly lectures, weekly club meetings, public outreach activities, a well-stocked library and other socialising opportunities. Studio Denley worked with the Society on their 75th Anniversary celebration materials.

75th anniversary enamel badge, featuring yellow star graphic

Leading the project was a celebratory pin badge. The design references the Birmingham city flag in its colours, with the star design based on the view of a round diamond cut to signify 75 years – a diamond anniversary.

Accompanying the badge was a 72 page printed publication that detailed key achievements of the society’s history. Alongside the stunning astronomical photography the book also featured fantastic historical images of the society throughout the years.

A copy of the publication was given to every member of the society with additional copies being distributed to various organisations to raise awareness.
