grounded.

Brand development for a Birmingham-based café and wellbeing space.

grounded. is a café and wellbeing space located in Selly Oak, Birmingham. The location has been fully renovated and transformed to create an accessible and welcoming café, along with therapy rooms and spaces that perform a variety of functions.

Founded by the West Midland’s two leading mental health organisations, Living Well Consortium and Birmingham Mind, and funded by NHS England, the space was designed with mindfulness at its heart. The first café of its kind in the West Midlands, it paves the way for making mental health support, mindfulness, and wellbeing accessible.

Studio Denley worked closely with architectural interior designers Sculpt to develop the brand before launch. This included refining the logotype that would be used across the exterior and interior signage, cups and other marketing materials.

Inspiration for the brand elements and colour palette was drawn from the interior design. The use of natural materials and mix of textures, along with a soft, muted palette of earthy colours were all incorporated. It was essential that the brand inside the space complimented the design decisions to create harmony, while a connection was made to strengthen the brand on outward facing marketing and communications.

The brand was applied to additional interior signage as well as social media graphics.

A range of merchandise related to self-care and wellbeing was designed that can be purchased in the café.
